Hot ticket: Love You More

With the quality of the feature films in this year’s New York Film Festival, it’s easy to overlook the short films that will accompany them. But among the many excellent shorts on offer, a unique delight is visual artist and Goldsmith’s College graduate Sam Taylor-Wood’s “Love You More.” This ode to vinyl, punk, the Buzzcocks, the search for an identity, growing up in a second and generally careless lust follows Brit schoolmates Peter and Georgia on the day the title Buzzcocks single is released, from record store to the first (and several more) turns of the A side. Taylor-Wood finds in the store’s cramped corners and the rebellious clutter of Georgia’s bedroom a dynamic and colorful landscape in which to explore the growing connection between his two characters, and the marvelous conviction of a relationship that takes its first significant form in the film’s 15 all-too-short minutes. What might be an enticing preview of one of Taylor-Wood’s reported forthcoming features—an adaptation of Julia Baird’s memoir “Nowhere Boy,” on the early life of John Lennon, her half-brother—is, in itself, a charming, inspired and joyfully concise piece of filmmaking. “Love You More” is screening with Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larrain’s “Tony Manero,” a gritty tale of a wannabe who will stop at nothing to achieve disco glory. Tickets are still available:
